This beautiful 20th century wooden sculpture
of a young African lady called out to me.
I miscalculated the proportions and just
barely got her feet into the picture.
The MFA's description says that the Baule people
in the Côte d'Ivoire believed
that everyone has an ancestral spouse in the other
world who must not be neglected.
This figure represents such an ancestral wife.
